Vmin Shift Instability Root Cause

Intel® has localized the Vmin Shift Instability issue to a clock tree circuit within the IA core which is particularly vulnerable to reliability aging under elevated voltage and temperature. Intel has observed these conditions can lead to a duty cycle shift of the clocks and observed system instability.

Intel® has identified four (4) operating scenarios that can lead to Vmin shift in affected processors:

  1. Motherboard power delivery settings exceeding Intel power guidance.
    a.  Mitigation: Intel® Default Settings recommendations for Intel® Core™ 13th and 14th Gen desktop processors.
  2. eTVB Microcode algorithm which was allowing Intel® Core™ 13th and 14th Gen i9 desktop processors to operate at higher performance states even at high temperatures.
    a.  Mitigation: microcode 0x125 (June 2024) addresses eTVB algorithm issue.
  3. Microcode SVID algorithm requesting high voltages at a frequency and duration which can cause Vmin shift.
    a.  Mitigation: microcode 0x129 (August 2024) addresses high voltages requested by the processor.
  4. Microcode and BIOS code requesting elevated core voltages which can cause Vmin shift especially during periods of idle and/or light activity.
    a.  Mitigation: Intel® is releasing microcode 0x12B, which encompasses 0x125 and 0x129 microcode updates, and addresses elevated voltage requests by the processor during idle and/or light activity periods.

Lenovo P3 Tower BIOS Update Aug 1st 2024

New BIOS Update available. May my Intel 13th Gen live a long life. Some things I noticed with these updates.

  1. I had to remove my GPU.
  2. Have patience, Once it reboots you have to wait and wait. It will be a black screen for a while, but it will reboot, then the Lenovo screen will show up. Then it will reboot a few more times. Just let it do its' thing. Once it loads into your OS it is done.

CHANGES for S0IKT6BA / WU Version 1.0.0.107

  - Enhancement to address security vulnerability CVE-2023-2650, CVE-2023-3817, CVE-2023-5678, CVE-2023-45733, CVE-2023-49141.
  - Enhancement to address security vulnerability LEN-153507.
  - Enhance BIOS Setup support.
  - Enhance firmware capsule update support.
  - Optimize Intel DTT CPU performance.
  - Update secure wipe app to v1.9.5.1.
  - Update CPU microcode.

Note: It looks like this is Revision 0x123

ProjectPier Status update #1

I've been having permissions and project issues, it was looking like my installation was misconfigured or missing some data. After digging through the installer it looks like my hunch was correct. The installer still needs more work though.

Time to get rid of some domains

I have too many domains and not enough time to implement projects. I'm not even sure if I would even have time to get to them. So I'm going through the list of domains and started listing some on them on domain market places. I guess it's better than it just sitting there and not doing anything. It would suck if I somehow had time to work on all of the projects and the domains got bought. Well you can't buy time..

And the projects I'm currently working on are:
  • Updating the Projects in my GitHub Repos
    • Jobskee-fork
    • ProjectPier-core
    • Checksum-Compare
    • PHPXreF(ork)
  • Websites
    • A social network (well, doesn't everyone make one)
    • Updating this Blog
    • An profile picture generator site
    • A browser game (basically a nation building game with market, resources, taxes...)
  • Game Development
    • Just some small random games to try to create new game features.

Started working on updating ProjectPier

I'm a bit unsure of the why, but I have started updating ProjectPier last night. I'm currently aiming for PHP8 compatibility. The simple preview video below is what I have working, its not much but it's somewhat working. It took me a couple of hours to get a part of ProjectPier actually working. During that time I got more familiar with ProjectPier's design so I guess it should be getting slightly easier from now. To actually get this working involved updating some static methods, setting some missing templates, changes to use MySqli, and changes to the autoloader.

Working on the UI of the Checksum Compare Program

Working on improving the UI of the Checksum Compare Program. I'm not sure if it made it better or worse. I removed the title bar and added a button to close the window.

Welcome to the future. The future is Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence

This is not a post about creating something like Skynet. No one wants that. This is about how accessible edge computing and programming connected devices have gotten. So recently I've bought a Jetson Nano and acquired a MXCHIP IoT DevKit.

Specs:
Jetson Nano
MXCHIP IoT DevKit

So what can it do?? Take a ML model and do some inference. I always felt that the Cloud is slow. Machines are fast, Data centers are fast, Networks are fast, but the internet is unpredictable. So take trained models and use it on the edge device (Jetson Nano) to get your output (the predicted value). I'm unsure what I'll make with the IoT DevKit, but there are a lot of projects to try.

Sometimes I go to Vimeo

I was watching a Vimeo video today and wondered why my player looked weird. Then I remembered that I made a downloader script last year. I still need to clean up the player controls some more.

p.s. The file urls can be found in .request.files.progressive in the json response from the config_url

Checksum Check Program

For a while now I wanted a program where I can compare file hashes from files I download. Sure, I use the CRC SHA feature from 7zip to find the hashes, but I would have to manually copy it out to verify what it should be equal to.

So I finally took some time to make something. Now I just drag and drop the file and the text I would like to compare it to. Then push the button to compare. I'll need to add a few more changes before I upload it.

A little update

I finished setting up a landing page for Banditpong.com, its actually a fork of another repo. Now it is served with https with GitHub pages. www.Banditpong.com should also work correctly with https. The process was simple and just took some waiting for GitHub to process the entry. Next I might set up the dns zone on CloudFlare.
